2008 November > 2008 GroundWater Festival
Over 5,000 grade 4 students from across Durham Region attended this year’s 11th Annual Durham Children's Groundwater Festival. Through various activities, students were encouraged to examine the importance of water to the survival and success of the pioneers. Taking a trip back in time, students investigated how farm buildings were located near a water source, how pioneers obtained the water needed for animals and the family, and how much water was required. As well they discovered hand power and the role of the child in pioneer families. The festival is not possible without the support of all the sponsors that help make this a terrific and memorable opportunity for these children. This year’s Diamond Sponsors included Central Lake Ontario Conservation, Ontario Power Generation, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation, TransCanada, Shell Environmental Fund, Region of Durham & First Student Canada.
