2008 November > EcoSchools Recognition Event

Young citizens are leading the way to a greener Region of Durham by helping to develop stronger environmental policies within local schools. City Council recently recognized seven schools from both the Durham District School Board and the Durham Catholic District School Board that have achieved an Ontario EcoSchool certification. On hand to receive their awards and a personal congratulations from Mayor John Gray were representatives from O’Neill CVI, Pierre Elliott Trudeau Public School, Adelaide McLaughlin Public School, T.R. McEwen Public School, St. John Bosco Catholic School, St. Christopher Catholic School and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School. Ontario EcoSchools is an education program that examines how our local schools are run from an environmental perspective. The program focuses on waste minimization, energy conservation, school ground greening, and ecological literacy and provides curriculum-based resources for schools and encourages the school community toward sustainability.
