Miss Universe Canada Visits Oshawa

The students and staff of G.L. Roberts CVI were delighted to welcome Mariana Valente, Miss Universe Canada 2009 to their school last month when she delivered a special address to students in Grades 9 and 10 on anti-bullying, charitable work and the importance of graduation. Staff and students also presented Miss Valente with a cheque for $465 which they raised through their Holiday Food and Toy Drive and donated to the Brazilian Association for Social and Educational Support (BASE), a charity founded by Miss Universe Canada herself. After the ceremony, six student winners joined Miss Valente and Durham District School Board representatives for a delicious luncheon prepared on site. Mariana was crowned Miss Universe Canada in May 2009 and was chosen to represent Canada at the Miss Universe pageant in Nassau, Bahamas. Oshawa wishes you the best of luck, Mariana!
